We moved to Kuroishi, Aomori, Japan in 2012 for Ian's job. This is a blog to keep our friends and family updated on what we've been up to. The majority of photos are by Ian, unless otherwise specified.

Mushi to Hi Matsuri (The Bug and Fire Festival) in Goshogawara, Aomori, Japan. It’s thought that the people have been practicing this tradition for 2,000 years or more. They carry large bundled pillars of straw to bonfires and burn them one by one into the night; it is done in an effort to ward off locusts and other insects from the oncoming crops. It started to die down after the Meiji Restoration but in recent years it’s been revitalized and draws in many tourists.
